We run the handover

Handover of records, opening balances, powers of attorney, registrations: we work from a checklist with dates, so you can see where the process stands.

What worries you about switching

Disruption mid-year, records that might go missing, and the question of what happens if the authority looks into an earlier period right now. We take these three in turn.

The steps of the switch

  1. 1

    First contact and quote

    1–2 working days

We get to know your company and send a written quote.

  2. 2

    Ending the previous contract

    the contractual notice period

Under the terms of your contract with the previous accountant.

  3. 3

    New bookkeeping contract

    1–2 working days

We set out what the package covers and what it costs.

  4. 4

    Handover of documents and records

    3–10 working days

We give you a list of what we need, and put any gaps in writing.

  5. 5

NAV powers of attorney and representation

    typically 1–2 working days

We arrange the powers of attorney and access rights with the authority.

  6. 6

Checking the data we take over

    2–5 working days

We reconcile the opening balances and any open matters.

  7. 7

    Ongoing bookkeeping starts

The next period starts with us – filing deadlines don't move in the meantime.

Expected timeline: usually 5–15 working days, plus the notice period of your previous contract.

What it means for you as a manager

The right moment

It is simplest right after a month-end or quarter-end close: the closed period stays with your previous accountant, the next one starts with us.

Your head office can read it too

We hand over the monthly figures and official correspondence in a form your parent company can actually use – with an explanation, not just Hungarian PDFs.

Frequently asked questions

Switching now would be too disruptive.

You can switch mid-year, but the timing matters. In practice it is simplest right after a month-end or quarter-end close: the closed period stays with your previous accountant, the next one starts with us. In the first conversation we go through what is finished and what isn't, and that becomes a step list with dates. Nothing pauses meanwhile – filing deadlines don't move because you changed accountants.

What happens to our data and records?

Two separate things. First, the handover from your current accountant: we give you a list of what we need (trial balance, opening balances, payroll master data, open matters) and we put any gaps in writing. Second, how we handle data at our end: we process what the service requires, and only the people who need it for their work have access. The details are in our privacy notice; our accounting software is RLB, data is kept on cloud storage, and documents come in via SharePoint or email.

And if NAV is looking at what the previous accountant did right now?

Nobody can rule that out, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can do: when we take over, we review the earlier periods, and if we find an error we tell you how large it is and what the options are – including a self-revision of the affected return. We handle correspondence with the tax authority and represent you: in Hungarian towards NAV, in your language towards you. Reviewing closed periods is not part of the monthly bookkeeping fee; you'll find its price on the Pricing page. This is general information, not advice on your specific case.

Our head office doesn't work in Hungarian. Will there really be no language barrier?

Our working languages are English, German and Hungarian. We draft contracts, reports and emails in these three, and we talk to your head office in them too. We do not handle correspondence in Polish, Czech, Slovenian or Italian – we will of course accept source documents in any language, but the conversation runs in those three. Official Hungarian documents stay Hungarian in the original, as the law requires; you get the explanation in your own language alongside.

We can find a cheaper accountant.

Probably, and that isn't the competition we're in. What is worth comparing is what the fee includes. Our package names the document band, the headcount and the work inside it, and anything beyond that is agreed in advance – no items you only find out about on the invoice. That includes asking your question in English or German, and the fact that a tax question doesn't stop at the edge of the bookkeeping.

You're a small company. What if someone goes on leave?

We are a small team, and we don't hide it: that's why we commit capacity rather than an unlimited client list. What you can verify: GERSE Consulting Kft. is a registered company – the company details are in our legal notice – and it is led by an attorney-at-law.
